NBSC Joins SUCsTREND Forum on Capacity Building for Peace Loving Global Leaders
Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon – Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC) participated in the Strengthening Universities and Colleges Through Responsive, Engaging, and Novel Discussions (SUCsTREND) that focused on the theme “Capacity Building: Peace Loving Global Leaders.” The event was spearheaded by the Office of CHED Commissioner Jo Mark M. Libre and hosted by Bohol Island State University (BISU) on April 28, 2023, at the Panda Tea Garden Suites in Tagbilaran City, Bohol. Ms. Rowena E. Bagongon, the Director of Student Affairs and Services, and Mr. John Mark L. Boyonas, the NSTP Coordinator, represented NBSC and actively participated in the discussions and activities.
The event featured notable speakers, including Dr. Merly B. Barlaan, Country Director of the Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP) International, United Nations Office, New York, USA, and Dr. Robert Stuart Kittel, Director of Education in Universal Peace Federation, Asia Pacific. Their insightful input added significant value to the event.
During the break-out session and action planning, all participants were grouped according to the region of their respective SUCs. NBSC, being part of Region X, collaborated and exchanged ideas with other SUCs to develop a program aimed at addressing problems in conflict-related areas. Director Bagongon, representing the Region X group, was selected to present and discuss their proposed program at the forum. Their proposal focused on providing equal opportunities for government services and programs to the Indigenous People (IP) as a means of promoting peace and sustainability. The proposal was well-received by the speakers and representatives of other SUCs from different regions, earning appreciation and commendation for the efforts put into it.
The event concluded with a peace-loving moment and closing remarks from Dr. Proceso M. Castil, Campus Director of BISU-Main Campus. NBSC looks forward to attending another exciting forum of SUCsTREND.
